Twice now, I've eaten out and automatically ordered a pop. I didn't drink either one, so I managed to keep on track with this change. These two experiences have really made me realize how important it is not to try to change too much too fast. It takes some practice and awareness to stick with just one small change like this. Hopefully the rest of the week will be easier.

My cousin's wife's review was tonight. The family seems to be holding up pretty well. There were many, many people there and lots of support. We found out that she had a virus which caused the congestive heart failure and a very enlarged heart. I'm writing a poem to remind myself and others of how death can be waiting just around the corner for each of us and to challenge myself to fight back to live. When it's done, I'll share it with you.

By way of introduction, I'm Rosemary Hauschild from Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the USA. I am a two-time heart attack survivor and have recently undergone surgery to open the blocked femoral artery in my right leg.

I'm feeling sad this week because my cousin's wife, 10 years younger than me, died suddenly of undiagnosed congestive heart failure. A terrible tragedy.

After my last heart attack, I realized that I've spent way too much time in denial about this disease. After each heart attack, I was gung ho to get better and made some changes. Then I felt so good, I just ignored this disease. My biggest issue is weight and I haven't made the permanent changes I need to get my health back. This got me to thinking that there are probably millions of other people just like me going through the same struggles.

So, this blog was "born" to help us all support one another on the way back to health.

My approach right now is what I call a "weekly tweak" (tm) where I make just one change per week. This week I decided to once again quit drinking soda pop with all its nasty chemicals. So far, so good. I am on day 3 pop-free!

I look forward to hearing from you -- what's worked for you, where you need support and any ideas you might have for recovery.
